Yoga is leaving an indelible mark on the world, On International Yoga Day

Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual activity that originated in India over 5000 years ago and has since helped the human race retain improved health and overall well-being. Yoga is something you should make time for if you're looking for calm, peace, and tranquility. Every year on June 21st, we commemorate International Yoga Day to raise awareness of the value of yoga among people all over the world.

How did it start?

Mr. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, spoke at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014, about the priceless gift of yoga that old Indian tradition has given to the world. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of yoga in bringing man and nature closer together in a powerful and persuasive speech. The effort was lauded, and on December 11, 2014, 193 members of the United Nations General Assembly voted to proclaim June 21st as International Yoga Day. More than 170 countries backed the proposal for a global yoga day. The following year, for the first time, World Yoga Day was observed on June 21st. The mass yoga session held on Rajpath in New Delhi drew around 35,000 individuals from all around the world. The session lasted roughly 35 minutes and included the practice of 21 yoga mudras.

Why is the International Day of Yoga commemorated on June 21st?

Many of us are curious as to why the 21st of June has been chosen as International Yoga Day. We all know that June 21st marks the longest day of the Northern Hemisphere's summer solstice or the time of year when the sun moves from north to south. It's also one of just two days a year when the sun's rays fall squarely on one of the two tropical latitude lines. This alteration is thought to have a substantial impact on people. This transition period, according to yoga teachers, is an excellent time to practice yoga. Another key reason for picking this day is that it was on this day that Adiyogi, the first known yogi, left with seven royal sages on a voyage to the south. These sages later became Adiyogi's first disciples and contributed to the spread of yoga throughout the world.

Celebration all across the globe

International Yoga Day is observed with zeal and excitement in India and many other countries of the world. Many yoga camps, seminars, training programs, workshops, and other events are organized on a large scale by government and non-government organizations. People frequently assemble in big groups in a park or on the ground to practice yoga mudras or asanas. Lectures and seminars are also held to raise awareness of the value of yoga practice in our daily lives. Many yoga gurus and trainers provide a variety of training programs and sessions all around the country.

Yoga should surely become a part of our lives because it not only aids in the maintenance of excellent physical health but also results in excellent mental health.
